London to Brighton Veteran Car Run 2019
Updated: Dec 5, 2019
We have made it into quite a tradition in our family to be in Crawley for the London to Brighton Run.
We love watching the old cars coming through the town centre which is one of the main stops along the way. They close off the town centre so that everyone can safely watch the cars and the big square is perfect for cars to pull over if they need to stop.
I think that it's fascinating that cars can only be entered in the Run if they were manufactured before 1905. There are cars that aren't even 10 years old that break down on every corner but the Run has cars that are over 100 years old and they are doing a 60 mile run. Don't get me wrong, there are some cars that break down but I think they do amazingly considering their age. They have obviously been well looked after.
The first rally was in 1886, how amazing is that, the Run has been going for 133 years! It started when the speed limit was raised from 4mp to 14mp so the Motoring Club celebrated by doing the 60 mile run from London to Brighton.
This year was brilliant as It usually rains but it was quite sunny this time, it was a brilliant change haha. It also meant that there was a lot more people than usual, I was worried that my little dog Sunny was going to get stepped on so I picked him up and put him in my bag. It's the only time my husband has never moaned about the size of my bag.
I love watching the engines display as well, it's so interesting to see how they work, even with the old cough and splutter haha.
We then chilled out with a few drinks in Shades before heading home.
I can't wait for next year.
