Using An Independent Travel Agent

In the past I have either used travel websites or big travel agents to book holidays so I decided to give an independent travel agent a try after hearing how great it was from some people I know. I got in touch with Claire at Travel Counsellors and after seeing the prices that she came back to me with, I couldn't say no, it wasn't much different to what I was seeing online and I got great personal service.

I am so glad that I did as Claire has been absolutely amazing. We booked our holiday in August 2019 for June 2020 and she organised the hotel, flights and transfers for us. There was so much more that she could of booked for us but we were returning to Kardamena for the third time so we knew where to go for the best deals on trips and days out. I know that Claire would have booked anything relating to the holiday if I asked her to.

You get a log in for the app and the website for you to go on to make payments, check details and get in touch with Claire. They are easy to use as I downloaded all of my travel documents the night before my holiday onto my phone so that they were easy to get hold of.

Claire's first challenge came with lockdown, holidays anywhere were getting cancelled or rearranged. She called us towards the end of May and we had a good chat about rearranging the holiday for October. The price was a little higher because the hotel had put their prices up but it wasn't a problem as we were given a few months to pay the difference.

Her next challenge came when British Airways decided to pull out of Gatwick meaning our flights were now going from Heathrow instead. It wasn't ideal but Claire managed to changed our flights for different times but for the same dates so there wasn't any complications with work and time off work. Everything was changed on the app and we had our new travel documents in no time.

I got an email about a week before the holiday with a link to complete the Passenger Locator Forms and the link to the UK government website to fill in the forms to come back into the UK. I also got a text message a few days before coming home to remind me to fill in the uk entry forms. She really looked after me.

The real big challenge came the day before our holiday, I was sat at home thinking about what to have for lunch when I got a call from Claire to say that our hotel had contacted her to say they were closing the next day. Panic began to set in a bit but then Claire said the magic words "but don't worry, I've got you into a 5 star hotel".

We had an amazing holiday and it's all thanks to Claire. I've already asked her to look into 2 more trips for me.
